Tecmo Koei boss Kenji Matsubara has said that his company would welcome the idea of a PlayStation 3 price cut, revealing that he frequently mentions the subject when conversing with Sony representatives.
Speaking during an interview with CVG, the executive stated, "Whenever I discuss this with Sony reps I always ask them: 'Please cut the price'. From a publisher's point of view we would welcome a price cut for PS3 and we are waiting, definitely.”
Despite this, Matsubara acknowledged that the industry accepts the PS3’s high retail price as a result of its expensive innards: "It's definitely a way of boosting the PS3 market, but it's Sony's strategy and I don't know their cost structure.”
“Sony introduced cutting-edge technology in the PS3, that's why people in the industry accept that the PS3 cost is so high, but we'd welcome a price cut,” he said.
Speculation on the possibility of a PS3 price cut has remained a topic of hot debate over the past few months, though from the look of things, Sony doesn’t have any plans to pursue such a move – at least not yet.

why does this site feel as if it's necessary to post daily about a some retard welcoming a PS3 price cut? Who wouldn't welcome a price cut on anything? Some of these sites report too much just to get traffic.

There isn't a software dev around that doesn't want this... He11, devs wouldn't mind another 360 price cut. I mean, they could sell a lot more 360 games if the thing only cost 2 dollars, couldn't they?
The reason they don't mention the 360 is because the 360's base price is considered mass selling price anyhow... Except it's an incomplete system (no harddrive) but if they were to ask for a price cut on that, they'd sound even more a-holish than they do asking for it on the PS3.
A price cut only helps the software devs, while it can both help and hurt the hardware makers.
On a different topic... He11 is really a banned word? Really?

i agree with #2. Plus his opinion doesnt matter as he doesnt work for sony. I'm sure some guy that works for mcdonalds also would welcome a ps3 pricecut. why dont you go interview him? lol Also since this is a ps3 website/forum would'nt you most likely already own a ps3 and not care about any sort of pricecut?

I'm sure everyone and his dog would welcome a PS3 price cut. But the simple fact is, it has been a loss-maker for Sony, because they actually did some R&D and created new hardware and a true next-gen system, rather than using exisiting off-the-shelf technology. So until they get a decent run of profit on it, the price isn't going to come down.
Sure, developers want a cut so that they sell more games and get more profit. But what about Sony's profit?
I personally would much rather Sony kept the price up and made a profit themselves, to ensure their continuation in the games industry, than cut the price to please devs and publishers, risk massive losses and potentially lose PlayStation from the gaming world altogether.
I know the financial situation isn't great at the moment, but that doesn't change the fact that £299 for a PS3 is a reasonable price. Considering it's the same price that both the PS1 and PS2 sold for, it's actually a brilliant price. People just need to stop being tight and go splash the cash. Anything worth having is going to cost you.
As big as they are, Sony simply doesn't have the funds to artificially slash prices and sell at a loss.

enough already. the same can be said for the game. drop the price. $60 is a lot of money for a game. if they drop the price 20% they would get more game sales. but no, they dont want to cut into their profit margins. so why are they asking sony to do so?

@12.. I live in Australia... our price on any new game is $120 and a PS3 $699. With our currency conversion we still pay a lot more. I think you guys in the U.S have it pretty good! I say don't price cut until profit is to be had. You get what you pay for...PS3 has the highest game console specs on the market!

why dont we just start demanding sony give them away for free! just cuz everyone demands for a price cut doesnt mean sony will follow, no price cut, just add cool games in a bundle, p.s.
there is a little big planet game/wall-e bluray bundle for $399, 80 gig
